GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four University of Florida gymnasts stuck their landing on the 2016-17 Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll. The four were among the 68 total Gators student-athletes on the list announced Wednesday by league commissioner Greg Sankey.
All four competed for the Gators' third-place team at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
This group helped the Gator gymnasts post a 3.55 team grade point average for the spring 2017 semester. Freshman Rachel Gowey was one of three Gators on the team to earn a 4.00 grade point average in the spring semester (other 4.0s: Claire Boyce, Alex McMurtry).
To be recognized to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
