2017 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Redshirt sophomore T.J. McCoy earned his second preseason watch list nod after being named to the Wuerffel Trophy watch list, as the National College Football Awards Association announced Tuesday.
McCoy, a social and behavioral sciences major, is one of 108 players being considered for this award.
The Clermont, Fla. native appeared in seven games for the Gators last season on the offensive line. He made his collegiate debut against Kentucky in the second week of the 2016 season, and then continued to be a valued part of the Gators at center, starting the final four games of the season.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
The 2017 recipient will be formally announced at the National Football Foundation's Press Conference in New York City on Dec. 5, 2017, and will be formally presented at the All Sports Association's 49th Annual Awards Dinner on Feb. 16, 2018.
