The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC) recognizes seven from the Gators' 2017 NCAA Championships' third-place team for their 2016-17 grade point averages. The NACGC recognizes the academic accomplishments of collegiate gymnasts each season.
All seven competed for the Gators in the 2017 campaign. This is the third appearance on the NACGC Scholastic All-America team for both Claire Boyce and Alex McMurtry, who both are majoring in Applied Physiology and Kinesiology. Boyce will receive her bachelor's degree in next month's commencement ceremonies in the Exactech Arena at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center.
McMurtry is one of 100 collegiate gymnasts with a 4.0 grade point average in the 2016-17 academic year. The Honda Award winner and NCAA Elite 90 recipient is also one of six to earn both CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large and NACGC Scholastic All-America honors in 2017.
Junior Grace McLaughlin also qualified for NACGC Scholastic All-America honors as a freshman. Four Gators - Sierra Alexander, Maegan Chant, Amanda Cheney, Rachel Gowey - make their first appearance on the NACGC Scholastic All-America list.
To qualify for the NACGC Scholastic All-America team, a gymnast must have a GPA of 3.50 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or above at the nominating institution.
Peyton Ernst also earned a spot on the NACGC Scholastic Academic All-America list with her 3.50 GPA earned before transferring after the fall 2016 semester.
