ROCKY FACE, Ga. -- After leading after the first and second round of the Carpet Capital Invitational, the Gators
Alejandro Tosti finished his weekend atop the leaderboard.
Tosti finished the tournament with a score of 205 (-11) which was two strokes clear of Clemson's Bryson Nimmer. Tosti was below par in each of his three rounds which included turning in a 71 (-1) final round Saturday. He became the first Gator in program history to win at the Carpet Capital.
His final tally was just two off the tournament record of 203 strokes set by Texas' Jason Hartwick in 2003. This is the fourth time in his Gator career that Tosti has claimed an individual title, the last coming at the SEC Championship earlier this year.
After leading the first two rounds of the tournament, the Gators would slip back to a tie for fifth carding a three round total of 862 (-2).
Coach's Take
On Tosti after his win at the Carpet Capital -- "Coming off of a summer that did not live up to Alejandro's high standards, he has come back to school more focused and dedicated than I've ever seen him. His sensational performance this week was a product of hard work, discipline and greatly improved emotional control. Every area of his game was at an elite level this week. This is definitely one of the stronger fields of the fall season in college golf. Ale's win goes to show you how truly special of a player he can be." - Coach JC Deacon
