
Gators Start Fall Schedule at Carpet Capital Invitational

Florida apart of field that features seven ranked teams
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida begins its fall season in Rocky Face, Ga. for the Carpet Capital Invitational.
The 29th annual event, hosted by Georgia Tech, is comprised of 15 teams from across the country.
The No. 10 Gators are joined at the tournament by six other top 25 schools (No. 7 LSU, No. 13 Auburn, No. 15 Virginia, No. 17 Clemson, No. 18 Georgia Tech and No. 19 Alabama). Fellow SEC schools South Carolina and Tennessee are in the field as well.
Last season, Florida finished fifth in the event with a three round total of 856 (-8). Individually, Gordon Neale placed 17th in the tournament as a 68 on his second round score card helped him finish four-under-par. Jorge Garcia finished T30 while Alejandro Tosti was T51 after 54-holes of play.
Freshmen John Axelsen and Chris Nido are inserted into the Gator lineup by coach J.C. Deacon for the first time in their careers.
Course Information: The tournament is being played at the Par 72, 7,012 yards The Farm Golf Club in Rocky Face, Ga. This is the 29th year the course has hosted the tournament.
Format: 54-hole stroke play where teams will play three rounds over three days. The first 18-holes will be played on Friday with the first team time scheduled for 8:00 a.m.
The Gators' Lineup
Alejandro Tosti
The reigning SEC Individual Champion starts his first competition of 2017 in the No. 1 slot. Tosti tied a program record with a 70.55 stroke average last season ending the season with a Gator best six top 10 and four top 5 finishes.
Gordon Neale
Neale was one of two Gators to compete in every event in 2016-17. Behind Tosti, Neale returns the second lowest stroke average as he finished last season at a 71.93 clip.
Chris Nido
Nido is competing in his first event as a Gator. He finished his junior career ranked in the top 50 in both the Golfweek/Sagarin and AJGA rankings.
Jorge Garcia
The junior is making his third start for the Gators in his career finishing in the top 50 in his previous two appearances.
John Axelsen
The Denmark native will be making his first start in his Gator career. Axelsen currently ranks 16th in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

After earning All-SEC Freshman team honors last season, Zhang competes in his first tournament for the Gators as an individual.
