
Men’s Tennis competes in final individual event before opening their dual match season

SUNRISE, Fla. – The University of Florida men's tennis team made the short trip to Sunrise, Fla. to compete in one last individual tournament before they open regular season play on Monday, Jan. 22 at home against the University of Central Florida at 6 p.m.
The International Tennis Federation USA F4 Futures event began on Friday, Jan. 12 and was held at the Sunrise Tennis Club, a clay court surface. The field included 128 participants in the singles qualifying draw with 16 advancing to complete the 32 man bracket in the main draw. Eight Gators entered the event in the qualifying draw with two advancing to the main draw.
The field that included collegiate and professional tennis athletes provided the Gators with a challenging tournament prior to the start of the dual match season.
Freshman Duarte Vale and Oliver Crawford advanced out of the qualifying draw with four straight victories. Crawford's run ended in the first round of the main draw while Vale continued his strong play with a win in the opening round of the main draw before falling to third seeded Gonzalo Escobar 2-6, 6-3, 7-6(6).
Senior Jordan Belga also had a solid tournament, reaching the fourth round of qualifying. Belga met Crawford in the fourth round where Crawford earned the 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Chase Perez-Blanco, McClain Kessler and Johannes each advanced to the third round while Andy Andrade made it to the second round and Stephen Madonia competed in the first.
