Florida and Florida State meet on the gridiron on Saturday at noon.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services has once again partnered with the Florida Gators and Florida State Seminoles and will tap into the Sunshine State's passion for college sports throughout each school's athletic year by highlighting each contest between the two as a "Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown."
FSU plays host to UF on the football field on Saturday at 12 p.m. on ABC.
Since its inception in 1958, the Florida-Florida State series has etched itself into sports lore as one of the most prominent rivalries in college football history. In this rivalry of sustained runs, Florida boasts a 34-26-2 all-time record against the Seminoles. In addition, there has only been one upset in this rivalry over the previous 10 seasons (2015), as the higher ranked team won each of those games.
UF has not defeated FSU since 2012.
Florida and Florida State's partnership with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reminds fans of the impact the agriculture industry has on Florida's economy and encourages fans to support Florida's farmers and fishermen by asking for Fresh From Florida products when they shop or dine out.
In addition to messaging around Sunshine Showdown match-ups, a dedicated website, SunshineShowdown.com, keeps fans informed of recent Sunshine Showdown results, upcoming contests and recipes and information about Fresh from Florida.
Beyond Saturday's football game, these two rivals square off each season in soccer, volleyball, swimming & diving, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's tennis, softball and baseball. Both institutions recognize the significance of the intense rivalry, as well as the strength of the joint platform.
"With many of our fans, alumni and academic community involved in agriculture in Florida, the Fresh from Florida Sunshine Showdown partnership allows our great rivalry with FSU to highlight the importance of supporting our state farmers and fisherman by buying and requesting locally grown and harvested products," said UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin.
"Our association with Fresh From Florida and the state's important agricultural industry has been a win-win for Florida State," said FSU Interim Director of Athletics David Coburn. "Seminole and Gator fans alike can agree that maintaining the vitality of this essential industry must remain one of our state's top priorities."
