GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Redshirt junior Tommy Townsend was named as a semifinalist for the 2018 Ray Guy Award, as the Augusta Sport Council announced on Thursday.
The Ray Guy award is presented to the nation's top collegiate punter at The Home Deport College Football Awards at the end of the season. The semifinalist list has 10 collegiate punters featured.
The Orlando, Fla. native currently averages 44.9 yards per punt and has already recorded 1,974 yards on 44 punts this season. He has booted 11 punts of over 50 yards and has registered 20 punts inside of the 20-yard line.
Against LSU, he recorded a career-long 71- yard punt, which was the seventh-longest punt in Florida football history.
With Tommy Townsend's semifinalist selection, the Gators have been featured on the list for three of the last four years. His older brother, Johnny, was selected as a semifinalist in 2015 and 2016.
Following that announcement, a national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision SIDs, media representatives and previous Ray Guy Award winners will vote for three finalists who will be identified on November 20.
The winner will be announced live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Award on December 6.
