LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. –
McClain Kessler was up a set and 5-4 in the second with a quarterfinals berth on the line when the rain started. Because of the inclement weather, Kessler's match was suspended and will resume Saturday morning.
In doubles,
Lukas Greif and
Brian Berdusco cruised to a first round victory over David Mizrahi and Juan Paredes of Louisville. Winning 6-3 earned the duo a spot in the doubles quarterfinals. Berdusco and Greif haven't played doubles together since winning one of the three doubles titles at the UVA Masters in September.
Kessler and
Harrison Cacciatore were up 4-1 in the first round of doubles, but couldn't finish off Oklahoma State's Emile Hudd and Brady Draheim and fell 4-6 and were eliminated from the draw.
Greif rolled to a first round victory as he defeated the U.S. Naval Academy's Greg Durham 6-2, 6-1. He earned a spot in the quarterfinals with a dominating 6-2, 6-3 win over Kristofer Siimar of Michigan. Kessler easily move with a defeat of Michigan's Johnathan Small 6-1, 6-2.
Berdusco dropped his first round match 3-6, 2-6 to Bill Duo of Princeton, but rebounded in the first round of consolations. He survived elimination with a tough 9-7 victory over Louisville's George Hedley. Cacciatore lost in the first round 0-6, 3-6 to Will Peters of Princeton, and couldn't squeeze out the win in a battle against Vuk Budic of Illinois. He was eliminated from the tournament in an 8-7 (2) defeat.
Berdusco and Greif's quarterfinal doubles match was supposed to be played Friday afternoon, but has been delayed to Saturday morning as a result of the inclement weather.
