Arkansas Defeats Florida 1-0 OT in SEC Tournament Semifinal Play

The loss ends Florida's season. The Gators needed to win the tournament to advance to 2018 NCAA Tournament action.

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – A goal less than a minute into overtime gave Arkansas a 1-0 win over Florida in the first Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinal match Friday afternoon at the Orange Beach Sportsplex.

The loss ends Florida's season. The Gators came into the event knowing they needed to win the SEC Tournament to claim the SEC's automatic NCAA berth. Only teams with records of .500 or better are considered for the NCAA Championships' 33 at-large berths. Florida advanced to NCAA Tournament play in each of the 15 previous seasons and 21 times in the program's 24-year history.

With the win, Arkansas moves ahead to its third consecutive SEC Tournament final to face LSU on Sunday. That match airs live on the SEC Network at 2 p.m. ET.

Friday's Match Moments:
  • Arkansas' game winning goal started when Marissa Kinsey crossed the ball across the face of the goal. Kayla McKeon's header to the far post scored at 90:44 to end the match.
  • Arkansas outshot the Gators 11-4 Friday. The best Gator chance came on a counter attack in the final four minutes of regulation. UF sophomore Deanne Rose brought the ball into the box and took a hard, 10-yard shot, but Razorback goalkeeper Taylor Beitz made the stop.
  • It was Florida's sixth overtime match of the season and its second of its three SEC Tournament matches. Florida tied Auburn 1-1 2OT in Sunday's first round, advancing to the quarterfinal with a 2-1 penalty kicks advantage.

Notes:
  • The Florida-Arkansas match was the first to be played after the semifinal rounds was pushed a day to Friday due to Thursday's Orange Beach weather predictions.
  • The Florida-Arkansas match was the fourth overtime match of the 2018 SEC Tournament – equaling the record for extra minute matches set in the 2010 SEC Tournament.
  • Florida played without senior Sarah Troccoli Friday due to a two-match suspension. She received a red card in the second half of Sunday's match versus Auburn. Sunday's match was the 90th UF played in her collegiate career and Troccoli had appeared in each one.
  • Arkansas avenged two regular-season losses in its two SEC Tournament matches. The Razorbacks won 4-0 over Mississippi Tuesday (3-1 UM win on Oct. 7) and 1-0 OT over Florida (3-0 UF win on Oct. 25).
  • The 16 Razorback corners is a record for a Gator opponent
  • Of Florida's six overtime matches in 2018, today's result was the first that didn't go to double overtime. UF was 0-4-2 in 2018 overtime matches. The season record of seven overtime matches was set in 2002 and equaled in 2006, 2009 and 2016. This is the fourth season that UF played six OT matches.

What Becky Burleigh Said:
"Credit Arkansas. They put a lot of pressure on us in the second half, which didn't really allow us to play our game. Finally the pressure gave in and they scored the go-ahead goal. Right before overtime, we decided to go to 3-5-2 and just go for it and not absorb the pressure. Unfortunately, we didn't get an opportunity to demonstrate that since it ended so quickly in the overtime." – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh

Looking forward:
"There are so many things to unpack from this season. We'll have a lot of work in the off-season to take in all the lessons from this. I feel like a lot of locker rooms would have given in and we never did. But we can definitely take some things from this and improve and reset some things in our program." – Florida Head Coach Becky Burleigh
