Harry Fodder: Bonus Perspective Police (Football Edition)
Wednesday, January 2, 2019 | Football, Chris Harry
Ah, but why wait?
One of the most satisfying Gators football seasons in recent years just went into the books, so it seems like as good a time as any to revisit some of the reactions (better yet, the overreactions) of the past 12-plus months on my Twitter feed. Remember, these were comments made either on original tweets by yours truly or to items that I retweeted.
Is it any wonder Dan Mullen tells his players to stay off social media?
No need to apologize, but feel free to feel a little bit silly or get a little red-faced if you show up below.
PERSPECTIVE POLICE BEAT(i.e. "Twitter Patter")
Coaches are held accountable. Players are held accountable. Even senior writers are held accountable. This space is dedicated to holding the fans (and fan boys) on Twitter accountable. At times, we'll also recognize those who "get it" and acknowledge those who offer entertaining social media fodder, or (God forbid) the proper perspective. [Note: If you're completely unreasonable and wonder why you don't show up here, it's probably because you've been muted or blocked, and thus in "Perspective Prison." I'm the cop, judge, jury and warden of that legal system, by the way.]
Goodbye 7 loss seasons, hello 6 loss seasons
— Will Applebee (@NOTSCWill) November 26, 2017
"Hello" 10-win season.
Good luck winning 8 games a year in the east and losing to the top ten west opponents. 4 years max.
— Christmas Tree Box (@TheHotBoxes) November 26, 2017
10 > 8
Beat No. 5 LSU
And still three years to go.
@ScottStricklin was angling from the onset... pic.twitter.com/btECPg5yYg

3-1 at Florida, including 2-1 against Top 10 opponents.
9-3 or 8-4 for the next 5 years. No more donations from me

Seriously, does UF even know how to hire a Head Coach? #Retread
— Global By Design (@SingapuraDiva) November 26, 2017
Wondering how a coach who won 60 percent of his games at his only head-coaching stop (at a program with more losses than wins in its history, no less) constitutes a so-called "retread." His career record is now 79-49, by the way (.617).
He just isn't D1 talent.
— Gringo_Burrito (@Gringo_Burrito) November 4, 2018
Season's stats: 2,457 passing yards, 24 touchdowns, just six interceptions, plus 350 rushing yards and seven TDs ... and Offensive MVP of the Peach Bowl (which only takes Division I teams).
@GatorsFB No reason to throw players, coaches, or fans under the bus. Third down defense and QB play is alarming. The team didn't believe in Frank's going into that game and it showed in the body language and the fans had Frank's fatigue before the season.
— Lance in Jasper (@LanceInJasper) November 4, 2018
Yet, Franks' teammates presumably did a great job faking how much they loved him over the course of the entire season, through the good and the bad times. That starts with the coach and permeates into the locker room.
We have no chance to win if franks starts
— Fins up (@Beaner__Juice) November 4, 2018
Actually, a 76.9 percent chance, based on his winning percentage as a starter under the current staff.
You jokers really trashed what could've been a great season.
— Wicked Grin (@wickedgrin1) November 4, 2018
Maybe the coaches can start a "First Down" backpack.
Or maybe a "10-win Backpack." Would you wear one?
Mullen you know its not frank's ! Quick way for you to lose the support of the fan base you keep asking for !
— AD (@BlasianAD) November 4, 2018
So, which team did you pull for Saturday?
Honestly last week we were all thinking 10-2 on Sunday morning, I'm honestly now wondering if this team will win another game
— Brian Sparks (@BrianSparks1997) November 3, 2018
Went 4-0 from there, outscored opponents 180-70 along the way, and will finish in the Top 10. So you were off by a half-game.
Well there went the heart you guys built up, 2 loses in a row ! Here we go another losing season
— Vote Trump 2020 #liberalhater (@BoStemen) November 4, 2018
MAGGA ... Making All Gators Grin Again.
Wasn't the majority of the Gator nation with Mullen? I consider myself one of the Gators that remembers that we were down 10 offensive starters last year when we drove Mcelwain out so hard that I believed he lied about those death threats. We are stuck with Dan 4 @ least two yrs
— Im_an_Architect (@Im_an_architec) September 9, 2018
How will you ever recover from this first dreadful one?
Going to be a long season again.
— Lee Barnhart (@LeeBarnhart3) September 9, 2018
Correction: The only way it could have been longer was playing in New Year's Eve or New Year's Day game — or the College Football Playoff.
Have fun getting blown out in Starksville Dan Mullin. GEAUX TIGERS!
— Bayou Bengal (@bengal_bayou) September 9, 2018
Actually, it's Starkville (no "s") and Mullen (with an "e"). Did you watch that UF-Mississippi State game? And how did you like that LSU-Florida game? Did you "geaux" to Gainesville for it?
In all kinds of weather, we'll all stick it to Coach Mullen until he leaves F-L-O-R-I-D-A! #Gators
— Paul J Elliott (@PaulJElliott) September 9, 2018
Nice to know such patience (through two games) was rewarded.
Like I have been saying all season: 1) no matter the question, Franks is not the answer; 2) jury remains out on Mullen. It's like a bad 80s movie where we swapped teams w mizzou
— D (@Gatorhoops12) November 4, 2018
Bad like, say, "Platoon" or "Back to the Future" or "Raging Bull" or "ET" or "Raiders of the Lost Ark" or "Do the Right Thing" or "American Werewolf in London" or "Glory" or … you get the idea.
@GatorsChris @GatorDave_SEC Last time a QB/RB combo embarrassed Gators to point of looking like rag dolls on defense was T Frazier & L Phillips in '95 National Championship in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowll in early 1996. Total
— Craig Morrison (@moneynavigator) September 9, 2018
physical domination by the Wildcats. This has to change!
It did.
Every week same thing: 1) no matter the question, Franks is not the answer; 2) jury remains out on Mullen.
— D (@Gatorhoops12) November 3, 2018
You again?
OK, answer this question: Who was Offensive MVP in the bowl game?
And this one: What's the Year 1 verdict on the coach?
This is another 4 or 5 win team
— Gern Blanston (@Trumplostby4mil) September 9, 2018
This guy shows up for basketball, too, and his record remains perfect with this tweet -- as in always wrong.
Mullen is garbage
— [-][,][-] (@bobbyt8874) September 9, 2018
Still mad, bro?
Exactly. I stand by the fact that the jury should still be out on Mullen. It's year 1. Not sure why you can't grasp that it takes more than 1 game more than 1 season to crown a gator coach especially in football. See zook, muschamp, mcelwain. Perspective!
— D (@Gatorhoops12) November 25, 2018
Never heard a peep from "Jury Guy" before, during or after the bowl game.
Mullen is the guy. He gets what the Florida program should be and he'll work hard to restore it! True fans stick together in all kinds of weather, remember?
— Trish Deveaux (@TrDeveaux) September 9, 2018
How dare you have perspective.
Happy 2019, Gator Nation!
