No. 11 Florida defeats No. 22 Notre Dame, advances in ITA Indoor Championships

SEATTLE – The 11th-ranked Florida men's tennis team regrouped on day two of the ITA Indoor Championship to defeat No. 22 Notre Dame 4-3. All four Gator victories came in singles.

After Florida dropped the doubles point for the third straight match they were forced to do something they hadn't this season, win four singles points to clinch the match.

The Gators started fast against the Fighting Irish and were able to control much of the action throughout the morning, but after losing at No. 6 singles they were again in a hole trailing 2-0 in the match. After court six was complete the Gators turned it on with two quick finishes as Oliver Crawford won 6-4, 6-2 and Andy Andrade won 6-4, 6-0.

After the match was tied at two, Notre Dame took a 3-2 lead with a win at No. 3 singles. The Irish lead didn't last long as Alfredo Perez was able to put away No. 118 Guillermo Cabrera 6-1, 6-4. The Gators clinched the match on court two with Johannes Ingildsen's 6-4, 6-2 victory.

Quoting Coach Shelton
"We did what we needed to do to get the win today. All the teams here are very good and these are great experiences for our guys. Our doubles play has not been our best, but great to see our guys come back in singles and rally. We are really looking forward to playing the Illinois tomorrow."

Quoting Andrade
On his early season success in singles
"My success first comes from all three coaches, especially coach Shelton. They have helped me make a change in my mindset on and off the court. I also have lots of confidence in my game since I have a couple of wins under my belt. I want to keep improving my game and developing my skills as much as I can to help the team reach our goals and achieve them."

On bouncing back from Friday's loss
"Yesterday was a lesson for us. We faced a tough team and they had no holes in their lineup, from one to six they could all play. Coach Shelton made us realize we can learn from the loss and be motivated to keep moving forward and keep working hard. We did it today and tomorrow will happen too."
