Gators Primed for Midweek Doubleheader Against Grizzlies

This week the program retained its No. 2 ranking in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, but moved up to No. 1 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll as it garnered 10 first-place votes.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida softball team returns to Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium tomorrow for a pair of games against Oakland University. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

The Gators (8-1) are coming off of a 3-1 week where Kelly Barnhill threw her third career no-hitter against North Florida (Feb. 14) and a series victory over then ranked No. 16 Louisiana (Feb. 17-18) in Lafayette at Lamson Park.

Florida opened the series with back-to-back shutouts of the Ragin' Cajuns, before the team fell in extra innings in the series final. It was the first time that Louisiana had been shut out in back-to-back games since 2007.

The Gators upcoming opponent, Oakland (2-2), still has a pair of games to play before traveling to Gainesville. The Grizzlies will take on FGCU in Fort Myers, Fla. today in a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.

This week the program retained its No. 2 ranking in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll, but moved up to No. 1 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll as it garnered 10 first-place votes.

The Gators will continue their 2018 campaign at home starting this Friday in the Aquafina Invitational. The team will compete against Illinois State, Maryland, Iowa State and Georgia Southern.
