These are the first weekly conference honors picked up by the Gators this season.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Juniors Kelly Barnhill and Amanda Lorenz received Southeastern Conference weekly honors after having prosperous weeks on the diamond.
Barnhill was named SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week after she recorded the first perfect game of her career a day after throwing her second no-hitter of the season against Iowa State. The Marietta, Ga. native also struck out a season-high 15 batters in midweek action against Oakland.
This is the first SEC Pitcher of the Week accolade for Barnhill this season, last year she was named SEC Pitcher of the week five times.
Amanda Lorenz claimed SEC Player of the Week honors after having a stellar week at the plate. The Moorpark, Calif. native batted .455 and slugged 1.045 through eight games.
Lorenz started the week going 0-for-3, but managed to record a walk and score a run. The talented outfielder went on to record 10 hits (with six doubles, two triples and a home run), scored a total of 12 runs and drove in another 10.
She saved her best performance for last as ended the week going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a home run and five RBI against Georgia Southern.
This is Lorenz's first career SEC Player of the Week award.
The Gators return to action this Thursday against Loyola Marymount at the Judi Garman Classic.
