Three Gators Named to Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List

Three University of Florida baseball players were named to the 2018 Golden Spikes Award midseason watch list, announced Tuesday by USA Baseball.
Closer Michael Byrne, third baseman Jonathan India and starting pitcher Brady Singer were selected for the midseason watch list, which narrowed the field to 40 players for the annual award given to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

Florida is the only school in the country to have three players selected for the midseason watch list. In addition, the Southeastern Conference leads all conferences represented on the midseason watch list with nine athletes.
Byrne, an All-American in 2017, leads the SEC with 8 saves on the season and has a 0.62 earned run average over 29.0 innings. He set a school record earlier this season for career saves, which now stands at 27.
India has had a breakout season and currently leads the SEC with a .426 batting average, .545 on-base percentage and .870 slugging percentage. He is second in the league with 12 home runs and currently has a 20-game hitting streak, the longest of any player in 11 seasons under head coach Kevin O'Sullivan.
Singer (pictured right), the Gators' Friday night starter, is tied for the national lead with seven wins on the season. He has a 7-1 record with a 3.00 ERA with a WHIP of 0.94, third-best in the SEC.
On Monday, May 21, USA Baseball will announce the semifinalists for the 2018 Golden Spikes Award.
Fan voting will once again be a part of the Golden Spikes Award in 2018. Beginning with the semifinalist announcement and continuing through the finalist round voting deadline, fans from across the country will be able to vote for their favorite player on GoldenSpikesAward.com.
