GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Redshirt senior Johnny Townsend was named as a Hampshire Honor Society member, as announced by National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame Wednesday.
Honorees are comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college careers.
Townsend departed UF as the most decorated punter in the program's 111-year history. The Orlando native owns school records for punting yards (11,090) and total punts (240). In addition, he ranks fifth and ninth in those categories all-time in SEC history.
He led the nation in punting yardage during his junior and senior seasons, sending 11 punts over 60 yards including a career-long punt of 70 yards against Georgia in 2017. Townsend's career average of 46.2 yards per punt stands alone in SEC history.
