Wednesday, April 25, 2018 | Softball
OKLAHOMA CITY – Kelly Barnhill and Amanda Lorenz were announced as 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Top 25 finalists Wednesday afternoon.
The Gators are one of seven teams nationally to have multiple players as Top 25 finalists for the award.
Barnhill, the 2017 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, has thrived during her junior campaign. This season, the Marietta, Ga. native has thrown five no-hitters, which includes a perfect game against Georgia Southern. The right-handed pitcher is also tied for the nation's lead with 10 shutouts on the season and leads outright in hits allowed per seven innings (2.25).
Lorenz currently leads the team with 56 hits, 15 doubles and 44 walks. The Moorpark, Calif. native ranks sixth nationally in walks and seventh with a 0.556 on base percentage. The talented slugger also has accounted for a pair of grand slams this season and has produced two games with six RBI.
This is Lorenz's first appearance as a Top 25 finalist.
Lauren Haeger is the only other Gator to have won the prestigious award. She earned the title in 2015 after leading Florida to the program's second national championship.
