Men’s Tennis drops Friday night match at Texas A&M

Men's tennis falls to No. 5 Texas A&M
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The ninth-ranked Florida men's tennis team (13-8, 7-3 SEC) dropped their second consecutive match on Friday, this one at the hands of No. 5 Texas A&M, 6-1.
 
For the second straight match, the Gators were unable to win the doubles point. Florida got off to a strong start on court two when McClain Kessler and Duarte Vale jumped out to a 4-1 lead. The duo was unable to win another point and fell by a score of 6-4. On court one Alfredo Perez and Johannes Ingildsen lost their fourth consecutive doubles match after falling 6-3.
 
Florida struggled early in singles, falling behind Texas A&M (16-5, 8-1 SEC) on multiple courts. The Aggies extended their lead with a 6-1, 6-2 win on court four and then again moments late with a 6-3, 6-1 win on court one. The match was clinched for A&M on court five when Duarte Vale fell 6-0, 6-4. With the match already decided the two teams played out the final three matches. Oliver Crawford saw his 12 match win streak come to end in a 10-point third set loss. After dominating in the second set to even the match he fell in a close battle 10-7.
 
The only win for Florida came from Andy Andrade who won on court six, 6-3, 4-6, 10-7. With the loss, Florida falls to 4-4 on the road and 1-2 against top 5 teams this season.
 
Quoting Coach Shelton
"We were in a position early in doubles but were unable to sustain it and Texas A& M capitalized and seized the momentum. We played better in spots today, but Texas A&M outplayed us overall. We need to reset and get ready for LSU on Sunday."
