
Liput Named Finalist for Brooks Wallace Award

LUBBOCK, Texas – Junior Deacon Liput has been selected as one of five finalists for the 2018 Brooks Wallace Award, presented to college baseball's top shortstop.
Liput has started 45 games at shortstop this year with a .301 batting average. He has seven home runs and 34 RBI on the season. Six of his seven home runs came in SEC action.
Most impressive is that Liput has just made two errors all season as the Gators' everyday shortstop.
The award, sponsored by Mizuno, honors the nation's top shortstop and will be presented this summer by the College Baseball Foundation. It is named for former Texas Tech shortstop Brooks Wallace, who played for the Red Raiders to from 1977 to 1980. Wallace died of leukemia at the age of 27.
