Taylor Manson and Cory Poole turned in some of the most impressive performances in USATF Juniors history
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Freshmen Taylor Manson and Cory Poole combined for three gold medals at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships this weekend, meaning both Gators will represent the Red, White, and Blue at July's IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.
Manson set a new personal record of 51.74 seconds with her victory in the 400 meters Sunday, breaking a tie for the No. 9 spot on the school's All-Time Outdoor Top 10. Manson's time was also the eighth-fastest ever run in the USATF Juniors final.
Poole became the third man in history to sweep the 110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles gold medals. The only other men to accomplish the feat are Jeffery Jackson (1993) and Kenneth Ferguson (2003).
His 400 hurdles win saw him set a new personal record (49.71 seconds) and move to No. 9 on the program's All-Time Top 10 list. Poole's winning time, half a second clear of the field, is believed to be sixth-fastest ever recorded in the USATF Juniors final, though results were not readily discoverable for 1984.
While Poole's winning 110 hurdles time of 13.34 seconds does not count for the school's All-Time Top 10 list, due to the lower hurdle height, it was three tenths of a second lower than his high school personal record. It was also the ninth-fastest time ever recorded in the USATF Juniors final.
The IAAF World U20 Championships will be July 10-15. For a complete timetable, follow this link.
