GAINESVILLE, Fla. – More than 100 members of UF's 2008 National Championship Team will be invited back to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 6 when the school celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the Gators' national title.
It's been 10 years since 2008 captains Louis Murphy, James Smith, Brandon Spikes, Ryan Stamper, Tim Tebow and Phil Trautwein helped guide the Gators on a magical run that ended with a 24-14 win over Oklahoma in the BCS National Championship Game at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.
In addition on that Saturday, two-time National Champion and 2007 Heisman Trophy Winner Tim Tebow will be inducted into the University of Florida Football's Ring of Honor.
Tebow, who's perhaps the most decorated athlete in college football history, will be honored during the Florida-LSU game on Oct. 6. His name will be unveiled and displayed in the North Endzone of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
The display, which will be approximately 18-feet wide and five feet high, will now feature Tebow, along with Wilber Marshall, Emmitt Smith, Steve Spurrier, Danny Wuerffel and Jack Youngblood. Marshall was the most recent inductee (Sept. 29, 2007), while the other four members were part of the original unveiling back on Sept. 30, 2006 as part of the 100-year Celebration of Gator Football.

The Promise
Tebow's speech following a home loss to Mississippi in September 2008 motivated Florida the rest of the season.
The speech was an emotional promise he made after Ole Miss upset the Gators 31-30. Fighting back tears, Tebow vowed that no one in the nation would work harder than him and his teammates the rest of the year. The Gators responded by running the table and beating Oklahoma 24-14 to win the program's second national title in three years.
"I felt like he was a prophet for saying it. He just said it and we got it done. He was a prophet." -- @brandonspikes55 in 2009

2008 SEC Championship Game
Tebow kept his promise as he pulled off with one of the best quarters of his college career in the SEC title game against Alabama.
Despite going just 14-for-22 on the game, Tebow was 5-for-5 for 70 yards and a touchdown in the fourth quarter, which brought numbers to 14-for-22 for 218 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions in the game. Tebow and running back Jeff Demps carried the UF rushing attack as they combined for 110 yards on 30 carries.
An interception by Joe Haden with 1:41 left in the contest sealed the victory for the Gators.
