Gator Soccer at UCF Sunday

UCF is Florida's sixth consecutive opponent which advanced to 2017 NCAA Tournament action.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida soccer continues play versus 2017 NCAA Tournament teams Sunday at Central Florida. Match time is set for 6 p.m. ET at the UCF Soccer & Track Stadium. Tickets start at $4.00.
 
UCF is Florida's sixth consecutive opponent which advanced to 2017 NCAA Tournament action. The Knights were a 2017 NCAA No. 2 regional seed.

Last Friday:
Florida comes into Sunday's match after a 1-0 loss at No. 3 Florida State. The two teams looked to be headed for overtime until FSU's Denya Castellano took a hard 24-yard shot. Kristen McFarland's left-footed touch on the deflection scored from six yards in the 88th minute. It marked the ninth time in the last 12 meetings that a single goal decided the match.
 
About the Knights:
Central Florida is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. Sunday's match will be UCF's home opener after the Aug. 19 Florida Gulf Coast match was called off due to weather. The Knights then opened the season with losses to a pair of top-25 teams in Chapel Hill, N.C., at the Carolina Nike Classic (2-1 OT/ then No. 21 Texas and 1-0 / then No. 4 North Carolina). The Knights won 2-0 at Miami and finished the four-match road stretch tying Maryland 1-1 2OT on Thursday.
 
Sophomores Dina Orschmann and Stefanie Sanders were part of Germany's 2018 Under-20 World Cup team that reached the knockout stage. Junior Zandy Soree leads UCF with five points off two goals and an assist. Senior Vera Varis, who is on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, has played every minute in goal this season and owns a goals-against-average of 0.94.
 
Head Coach Tiffany Roberts Sahaydak, who won World Cup and Olympic gold while playing for the U.S. National Team, is in her sixth season at UCF.
 
Preseason Conference Votes:
Florida took third in the 2017 Southeastern Conference regular-season standings. Central Florida is the defending American Athletic Conference champion.
 
Florida – The SEC coaches picked the Gators to win the 2018 SEC title.
 
UCF– The Knights are picked to repeat as AAC champions.
