
Women’s Tennis Pegged to Finish Third in SEC

Young Gator team looks to build on second place finish a season ago
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Florida women's tennis team was selected to finish third in the SEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.
Florida, which played to a 19-9 record and an 11-2 mark in conference action last season, totaled 154 points in the coaches' poll.
The Georgia Bulldogs, who finished 18-7 last season and currently rank No. 5 in the Oracle ITA rankings, were selected to win the SEC while Vanderbilt, who won the SEC last season, was voted to finish second.
The Gators return three players from last season's team which earned the program's 36th trip to the NCAA Championship. Sophomores Victoria Emma, McCartney Kessler and Katie Kubicz are all back for Florida while experienced transfers Ida Jarlskog (Georgia Tech) and Tsveta Dimitrova (Houston) joined the squad this past fall. Three freshman, Sydney Berlin, Anastasia Kharitonova and Marlee Zein, round out the unit.
Florida opened its 2019 dual match season this afternoon vs. California and will host 12 additional home matches this season including this weekend's ITA Kick-Off which will be played Jan. 26 and 27 at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
