Dyson, Dalton Earn Preseason All-America Honors
Monday, January 28, 2019 | Baseball
Florida juniors Wil Dalton and Tyler Dyson each earned Preseason All-America Honors from Baseball America on Monday.
Baseball America annually polls major league organizations' scouting departments to vote on the team and asks that they make their selections based on performance, talent and professional potential. In the past, the Preseason All-America team has been a predictor both of the first round of the draft and of team success.
Dyson was selected as a First Team Preseason All-American. In his career, he has a 9-3 record and 3.93 ERA over 89.1 innings pitched. Dyson played a key role in the Gators' 2017 National Championship, starting the final game and allowing just one run over six innings to earn the win. He had a 4.47 ERA over 11 starts in 2018 as he struggled with a nagging injury for most of the year.
Dalton earned a spot on the Preseason All-America Third Team. Last year, he earned Second Team All-SEC honors with a team-best 60 RBI. Dalton ranked second in the SEC in RBI and home runs (19) in 2018 and was the only player to start all 70 games for the Gators last season.
Fourteen schools from five conferences are represented on the first team. In all, the 42 players on the three Preseason All-America teams represent 35 schools.
Last year, nine members of the 2018 preseason first team became first-round picks in June, including College Player of the Year Brady Singer. In all, 13 players from last year's Preseason All-America teams were drafted in the first round last year, including the top five picks overall.
