Gators Move to No. 9 in New CSCAA Top 25 Poll

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida's men's swimming and diving team moved to No. 9 in the latest College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) TYR Top 25 poll announced on Wednesday.
The Gators (4-1) were ranked No. 7 in the opening poll two weeks ago after posting three-straights wins over Nova Southeastern, Indian River and FAU.
In their first meet after the opening poll, the Gators continued their hot start to the season, beating Minnesota by a score of 178.5-116.5.
The non-conference win helped UF sweep the Southeastern Conference weekly awards as Kieran Smith (Swimmer of the Week), Alex Farrow (Diver of the Week) and Eric Friese (Freshman of the Week) all picked up the first accolades of their careers.
Their first loss came last Friday in their Southeastern Conference opener versus No. 13 Missouri by a final score of 109.5-90.5. The Tigers moved up nine spots to No. 4 after their win over the Gators. Robert Finke swept the distance events, beating the field by almost 10 seasons in the 1,000 free and winning the 500 free with a season-best effort. Smith would set or tie two personal-bests, highlighted by his new personal-best 100 free swim of 44.07.
Florida will look to bounce back with a pair of home meets inside the Stephen C. O'Connell to conclude the dual portion of their 2019 schedule.
No. 14 Georgia will travel into the O'Dome for the Gators' home opener on Nov. 1 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a visit by No. 15 Florida State for the annual Fresh from Florida Sunshine Showdown at 2 p.m.
