NEW YORK, N.Y. – The John Mackey Award released their weekly John Mackey Tight End of the Week honors on Tuesday, as Florida's Kyle Pitts was named honorable mention after his efforts in the Gators' 24-13 upset win over Auburn. Despite Pitts' performance, Virginia Tech's Dalton Keene was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week, while Miami's Brevin Jordan also received honorable mention honors along with Pitts.
Sophomore Kyle Pitts has made his presence known amongst defenses lining up against the Gators, as Pitts set his career high in receptions against Auburn for a fourth consecutive game, finishing with eight receptions for a career-high 65 receiving yards. Prior to Saturday's contest, Pitts had entered the game with career highs of four receptions (previous three games) and 63 yards (at Kentucky). Additionally, Pitts tallied his longest catch of the season with a 32-yard reception in the fourth quarter of Saturday's win.
Pitts, a native of Philadelphia, Pa., leads the Gators' receiving core in receptions (25) and is tied for the most touchdowns (3), while ranking third on the squad in receiving yards (254). His 25 receptions are the most among tight ends in the SEC.
The 2019 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 11, 2019 and then presented live on December 12, 2019 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
The No. 7 Florida Gators travel to Death Valley this Saturday for another highly anticipated top-10 matchup with No. 5 LSU, slated for an 8:00 p.m. kickoff on ESPN.
