Gators Take Pride the Distance in Fall Action

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Gators squared off with the USSSA Pride Friday night at Space Coast Stadium and took the professional team to extra-innings, but eventually dropped the 1-0 decision in the 8th inning.
The Gators put up a strong showing out in the field and held the Pride, a team full of former All-Americans, to just four hits. Freshman left-hander Rylee Trlicek hurled all 7.1 innings and along with the four hits, only issued a pair of walks and picked up two strikeouts on just 68 pitches.
The Hallettsville, Texas native also has yet to give up an extra-base hit over the 20.1 innings she has pitched this fall.
Offensively, the Gators picked up one hit from junior Hannah Adams, but threatened to score on more than one occasion. In Adams first at-bat, she roped a single down the left field line and was moved into scoring position on Kendyl Lindaman's one-out walk. The Pride eventually worked out of the jam with a flyout and a groundout.
Florida moved into scoring position once against whenever Adams was hit by the pitch in her third at-bat in the 6th inning and moved over to second via Charla Echols' one-out walk. However, the Pride managed to induce a force groundout to third and a strikeout to end the inning.
In the top of the 8th inning with the international tie break rule in effect, UF advanced Baylee Goddard over to third on SAC bunt by pinch-hitter Hannah Sipos, but Goddard was eventually erased at home on an infield grounder.
The Pride executed the same strategy in the home half of the inning to win 1-0.
The Gators wrap up their fall season tomorrow at 1 p.m. when the team takes on Florida State at Space Coast Stadium.
