Thursday, November 21, 2019 | Football
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the names of 20 "Players to Watch" for its 2019 Player of the Year award, as Florida's Kyle Pitts was named among the list of semifinalists. Pitts is the only tight end included in the group, as the 20-player watch list includes six running backs, six quarterbacks, four receivers and four defensive players.
Kyle Pitts has had a breakout year for the Gators, emerging as Florida's top receiver throughout the course of the season. Coming off a 23-6 win over Missouri last Saturday, in which he tallied four receptions for 38 yards, Pitts leads the Gators' receiving core in receptions (46), receiving yards (566) and yards per game (51.4), while being tied for the most touchdowns scored this season (5). Additionally, Pitts leads all tight ends in the SEC in receiving, while ranking 11th among the conference in receiving yards.
The No. 11 Florida Gators return back to action next Saturday, Nov. 30, when they host Florida State at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium on Senior Night to close out the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. to be televised on the SEC Network.
The Walter Camp Player of the Year is voted on by the 130 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.
The 2019 Player of the Year will be recognized along with the Walter Camp All-America team at the Foundation's national awards dinner on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Yale University's Lanman Center.
