GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators were off last weekend, and while Penn State and Oregon both lost, stayed stalled at 11th in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
Florida (9-2) remained at No. 11 for the third consecutive week despite Penn State's loss to Ohio State and Oregon's loss to Arizona State. The Gators close the regular season at home Saturday night against Florida State (6-5).
While Oregon dropped out of the top 10, Penn State dropped only two spots from eighth to 10th. Baylor (10-1) moved up five spots to ninth after beating unranked Texas, moving ahead of the Gators in the process.
"Baylor had a dominant win this week after a close loss to a highly rated Oklahoma team,'' CFB Playoff Selection Committee chair Rob Mullens said. "Adding to their resume where they already have two wins over Top 25 teams."
In reference to what separates Penn State and Florida, the highest-ranked two-loss teams, Mullens said of the Nittany Lions: "You know, their wins over Michigan and on the road at Iowa. And they also have a quality non-conference win over Pitt. Both teams have good losses, quality losses, with Penn State's being our No. 1 and our No. 8 teams this week."
Florida's losses are to No. 2 LSU and No. 4 Georgia. Meanwhile, Ohio State displaced LSU at the top of the rankings. The Tigers dropped to second, followed by Clemson, Georgia and Alabama in the top five.
The 13-member CFB Playoff Committee, which includes UF Athletic Director Scott Stricklin, released its fourth rankings of the 2019 season on Tuesday night.
This is the fourth of six CFB Playoff rankings to determine the teams that will play for the national championship. In its sixth season, the top four teams in the final CFB Playoff rankings at the end of the regular season earn berths in the NCAA semifinals. The winners play for the national championship in New Orleans on Jan. 20 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
