Blackshear Named to Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List

Graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr. is among 46 candidates for the Oscar Robertson Trophy.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida men's basketball graduate transfer Kerry Blackshear Jr. is among 46 nominees for the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List, the United States Basketball Writers Association announced Thursday.
The Oscar Robertson Trophy is awarded to the most outstanding men's basketball college player as determined by the USBWA. The USBWA has named a national player of the year every season since 1956, making it the oldest award of its kind.
The 2019-20 Oscar Robertson Trophy will be presented at the NCAA Final Four in Atlanta in April. The winner will be also be honored at the annual USBWA Awards Luncheon at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Mon., April 13, 2020.
Blackshear's recognition by the USBWA comes as his fourth watch list honor of the season, following the John R. Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award watch lists.
Through his first eight games as a Gator, Blackshear has notched five double-doubles, including three in a row to open the season. Due to his early dominance, Blackshear currently leads the team in rebounding, averaging 8.9 rebounds per game, and is second in scoring with 12.9 points per game.
Prior to moving to Gainesville, Blackshear played for Virginia Tech where he amassed 1,152 points and 616 rebounds. Last season, Blackshear averaged 14.9 points and 7.5 rebounds as well as recorded nine double-double and seven game with 20 or more points.
