The Watertown, Ontario, native is the only international Gator on Florida's squad, competing over 1,000 miles from home.
She is a year older than the rest of the juniors on the team, because she deferred her enrollment a year to focus on trying to make the Canadian Olympic team in 2016.
The former Canadian National Team member's most distinctive trait, however, is her vault, which she has been doing since she was 9-years-old.
Instead of preforming a Yurchenko, like almost all of her teammates and gymnasts in the NCAA, Chant instead performs a skill that is called a Tsukahara layout full.
"I've been doing that vault for as long as I can remember," Chant said. "(A Yurchenko) was just not natural for me. The tsuk was natural for me."
Like a Yurchenko one and a half twist, Chant's vault starts at a 10.0 value.
Maegan Chant celebrates her successful return to the Gators' vault lineup. She posted a season-best 9.85 at LSU.
However, due to an ankle injury, she wasn't part of the Gator's vault lineup for more than a year.
Being on the sidelines and not competing for her team was tough mentally for her because it was not something she was used to doing.
"It was very hard; it was like 'Ugh, I'm out again.' But I've always been a hard worker and my passion for the sport carries me through the hard times," she said.
That changed in Baton Rouge, when Florida's coaches put her in the lineup against the No. 3 LSU Tigers.
She delivered a 9.85, which tied for the second-highest score of the night for Florida on the event, behind freshman Trinity Thomas's 9.875, and helped her team to a victory on the road.
Her score was just .025 off of her collegiate best.
"Being able to go there and land it just felt amazing," she said. "It was so good to be back and I couldn't be happier."
But gymnastics isn't the only thing Chant loves to do.
Outside of the gym, she also has a passion for creating art, whether it be sketching, painting or drawing.
"It's kind of a hobby of mine," she said. "It's a way for me to relieve my stress because I am able to use my hands and do something and it takes my mind off things."
Most recently, she spent the last few weeks painting the wall of her bedroom in her apartment with sunflowers.
"Other than this recent wall art," Chant said. "I usually draw and paint on paper."
