GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Senior Kelly Barnhill was awarded Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week Thursday afternoon after her performances at the USF Opening Weekend Invitational.
Barnhill (4-0) picked up a decision in all five games that the Gators (5-0) played in over the weekend. The Marietta, Ga. native earned a complete game shutout over No. 19/14 Michigan and earned her fourth career save against No. 7/6 Arizona. For the week, she pitched 19.0 innings, fanned 26 batters and recorded a 0.74 ERA.
The right-handed hurler now sports a 74-8 career record and moved her into a tie for fourth all-time with Stacey Stevens (74-42) in the UF record book. She also surpassed Aleshia Ocasio and Lauren Haeger in the process and currently trails only Stacey Nelson (136-36), Hannah Rogers (127-31) and Stephanie Brombacher (97-11).
This is Barnhill's 10th career SEC Pitcher of the Week honor and first of the season.
