KEY NOTES OF WEEK:
Florida opened the season with a sweep of Long Beach State in Gainesville…It's the fifth year in a row the Gators have swept on opening weekend; UF has won its opening weekend series 12 years in a row…Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan recorded his 500th career win on Sunday, becoming the fastest in UF history to reach the milestone; he has a career record of 500-229 (.685)…Florida opened the season with a 8-2 win on Friday night as the bullpen went 5.2 scoreless innings to shut down the Dirtbags…Wil Dalton and Brady Smith each had a pair of RBI in the win...In Saturday's 5-2 win, Tommy Mace went 7.0 strong innings with two runs allowed on five hits while recording a career high seven strikeouts…Sunday was a pitchers' duel and UF came out on top as Jack Leftwich allowed just one run over six innings in a 3-1 win…UF's bullpen combined for 10.2 scoreless innings over the weekend and limited the Dirtbags to a .143 average against…Jordan Butler, Hunter Ruth and Nolan Crisp led the way with two scoreless innings apiece; Crisp – an early enrollee – also recorded the first two saves of his career…Overall, UF got contributions from 11 newcomers on opening weekend, including eight freshmen; three freshmen were in the opening night lineup, including Kendrick Calilao, who became the first UF freshman to start at first base on opening night since Ryan Shealy in 1999.PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brady McConnell – So. – SS – Merritt Island, Fla..417 (5-12), 2 R, 2B, RBI, 0 E
- After an injury limited McConnell to just five starts as a freshman, he returned to the lineup on opening night and led the team with five hits on the weekend
- He went 3-for-4 on Sunday with a RBI double
- McConnell also played error-free shortstop all weekend
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Jack Leftwich – So. – RHP – Orlando, Fla.1 G/GS, W, 6.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R/ER, 0 BB, 5 K
- Leftwich picked up the win in his first start of 2019 with 6.0 solid innings on Sunday
- He didn't walk a batter the entire game and notched five strikeouts
- The lone run allowed came on a solo home run in the second inning
- Aside from the solo HR, only one other baserunner reached second base in six innings off Leftwich
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Nolan Crisp – Fr. – RHP – Locust Grove, Ga.2 G, 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 2 saves
- A 2019 early enrollee, Crisp took hold of the Gators closer role in the spring and earned the save on both Saturday and Sunday
- He worked a 1-2-3 inning on Saturday
- On Sunday, he allowed a leadoff double but retired the next three batters in order
