Lorenz, Barnhill Named Senior CLASS Award Candidates
Thursday, March 14, 2019 | Softball
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Seniors Amanda Lorenz and Kelly Barnhill were both named as candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award this afternoon along with 28 other student-athletes from across the country. The Gators are the only program to have two players listed as candidates for the award.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
Lorenz graduated in December with her undergraduate degree in Sport Management and is now pursuing her master's the same field of study, while Barnhill is currently enrolled in UF's College of Journalism and Communication's combined degree program. The combined degree program has allowed Barnhill to start her master's in Strategic Global Communications while she also completes her bachelor's in Public Relations.
Amanda and Kelly's full Senior CLASS Award profiles can be found HERE along with the other 28 candidates.
Over the years, Florida softball has been well represented by outstanding student-athletes who have garnered notoriety with the Senior Class Award. In 2009, Stacey Nelson became the first Gator to receive the award.
The Gators are preparing to take on No. 9 LSU in Baton Rouge for a key SEC series this weekend.
