Gators, Tar Heels Set to Face Off

Florida and North Carolina meet for the 10th time in program history on Saturday.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The No. 16 Florida Gators welcome the third-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels on Saturday for a Top-20 matchup.

Opening draw will be at 1 p.m. at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. The game will be streamed on YouTube with Ryan Urquhart and Annie Collins on the call.

Saturday's game is an ORANGE OUT to support both Jada and Leukemia awareness.

The Gators are coming off a tightly-contested loss to No. 4 Syracuse, while North Carolina defeated Elon, 20-2, in its previous matchup.

Florida has one of the most challenging non-conference schedules in the country, with North Carolina being the sixth ranked team the Gators have faced. The schedule does not get easier over the course of the next five days, with Florida facing No. 9 Princeton and No. 18 Stony Brook.

  • The theme for Saturday's game is an Orange Out for Pediatric Cancer/Leukemia Awareness
  • Giveaway: There will be a giveaway of 300 orange dri-fit Jada Strong shirts
  • Dance Marathon: Families of patients involved with DM are invited out to the game for a special recognition at halftime. In addition, the DM team with the most participants in attendance will earn a $500 donation toward their DM fundraising efforts
  • Student Tailgate: For this Orange Out, there will be an orange body paint station and free orange Gatorade. There will also be free Sonny's Mac & Cheese for the first 50 students
  • Gators Students Rewards Check-in: UF students can check in on the Gators Students Rewards App to earn points towards great prizes
  • Kid's Corner: At the kid's corner, there will be face painting, a balloon artist, corn hold, Giant Jenga, Spikeball, Giant Connect Four and a post making station. There will also be a station to write kind notes to patients at Shands Hospital that will then be delivered by the team

Scouting the Tar Heels
No. 3 North Carolina currently sits 6-1 on the season, with the only loss coming in overtime to No. 2 Maryland. The Tar Heels hold a 3-1 record over ranked opponents this season, defeating James Madison (18-7), Northwestern (21-11) and Virginia (13-12). This is the 10th meeting between the Gators and the Tar Heels in program history, with UNC holding the 6-3 series advantage. North Carolina is led on the offensive front by Jamie Ortega, who has scored 28 goals and has registered seven assists. Taylor McDaniels and Tayler Warehime also have pitched in 12 and 11 goals, respectively. Ally Mastroianni holds control in the draw circle, winning 25 draws this season. Gianna Bowe has also added 17 draw wins. Taylor Mareno has made her presence known in the cage this season, holding a .500 saves percentage. She has recorded 52 saves and is 5-1 on the year.
