Gators Take on No. 6 Vanderbilt

Florida faces another Top 10 opponent as the Gators continue SEC play with a trip to Nashville.
GAINESVILLE, Fla.--Florida (16-7, 1-2 SEC) hits the road for the first time in SEC play to face No. 6 Vanderbilt (16-5, 1-2 SEC) beginning Thursday night in Nashville.

  • O'Sullivan vs. Vanderbilt: The Gators are 8-3 in weekend series against Vanderbilt under O'Sullivan, including 3-2 in series in Nashville. Florida has won four straight series against the Commodores. Last year, UF swept Vanderbilt in Gainesville. The result snapped a streak of 59-straight SEC series without being swept for the Dores (streak started in 2012).

  • Calilao honored: Following a seven-RBI week, freshman Kendrick Calilao was named SEC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season. He went 6-19 last week and had six RBI in the Gators' 20-7 win over in-state rival Florida State.
  • Whoa Nelly: Nelson Maldonado, a senior captain, has been on fire the last three weeks. Over the past 15 games, he is 27-for-55 (.491) with 11 extra base hits, three home runs and 20 RBI. During that span, he has separate six-game and eight-game hit streaks. He has only struck out five times in 63 plate appearances in that span and has nine multi-hit games.
