Gators Notch Four NCAA Leads at FSU Relays
Friday, March 22, 2019 | Track and Field
TALAHASSEE, Fla. – It is certainly early in the outdoor season to say the least, but the Gators posted a number of impressive performances in their opener at FSU Relays. Florida totaled four NCAA leads and eight more times and marks that rank in the top 10 nationally.
The day's most impressive performance came, as expected, from the men's 4x100 relay. The team of junior transfer Raymond Ekevwo, sophomore Hakim Sani Brown, junior Grant Holloway, and senior Ryan Clark combined to run an NCAA-best 38.74 seconds—which kept them off the program's insanely-fast All-Time Top 10 list by just six hundredths of a second.
The Gators put on a show in the long jump, as senior Yanis David and Holloway posted NCAA-leading marks. Junior transfer Kala Penn also posted an all-conditions personal record en route to the No. 2-ranked mark in Division I.
Fresh off scoring at his third national meet, redshirt senior Jhonny Victor tied the nation's top high jump mark, clearing 2.21 meters (7 feet, 3 inches). The Orlando native also climbed to No. 7 on the Gators' All-Time Top 10 list.
And the following Gators posted times or marks that rank in the top 10 nationally: redshirt sophomore Connor Bandel (men's shot put), freshman Imogen Barrett (women's 800 meters), senior Asa Garcia (women's triple jump), junior Brandee' Johnson (women's 100-meter hurdles), sophomore Nikki Stephens (women's 400-meter hurdles), junior transfer Denzel Villaman (men's 400-meter hurdles), and freshman Gabrielle Wilkinson (women's 1,500 meters).
The Gators continue their outdoor season next week, when they host the Pepsi Florida Relays, Thursday through Saturday.
