Hicklen, Kavanagh and Ronbeck all honored by the conference
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Strong performances against two Top-20 opponents last week earned a trio of Gators AAC Player of the Week honors, as the league announced Tuesday.
Shannon Kavanagh was tabbed as the AAC Midfielder of the Week for the fourth time this season, while Haley Hicklen was named Defensive Player of the Week for the third time. Lindsey Ronbeck was also tabbed by the conference, earning a spot on Honor Roll for the third time this season.
Against two Top-20 teams this past week, Kavanagh recorded eight goals, including a five-goal performance to lift Florida over No. 17 Stony Brook. That was her third five-goal performance this season, tying her career-best mark.
The sophomore has now recorded a hat trick or better in six games this season and she currently sits at 98 career points. She is on track to become the 16th Gator to score at least 100 points in a career and she would be the sixth one to do so within her sophomore season – if she hits the mark against Brown, she will be the third fastest Gator to reach 100 points.
Kavanagh ranks third in the conference in free-position goals per game (0.90), goals (30), goals per game (3.00), shots on goal (6.50) and shots on goal per game (4.30). She is also sixth in draw controls per game (3.40).
Hicklen put up two strong performances in the cage against two Top-20 opponents this past week.
Against the Seawolves, she posted a .600 save percentage, coming up 15 saves. That was just one off both her career-best and the program-best and was her fifth performance in double-digit saves this season.
Hicklen also recorded seven saves against Princeton, as well as registering three groundballs. The senior sits first in the conference in save percentage (.455) and saves per game (10.20). She also is second in goals against average (12.36) and total saves (102), as well as fourth in groundballs per game (2.70).
Ronbeck recorded five goals over the course of the last week, including three against ninth-ranked Princeton. That was her seventh hat trick or better this season. The senior also recorded three groundballs and two draw controls against the Tigers.
Against Stony Brook, Ronbeck recorded two goals, four draw controls and one groundball to help lift the Gators over No. 17 Stony Brook. Ronbeck is just eight goals away from becoming just the third Gator to reach 200 goals in a career.
She went 3-of-5 on free-position attempts over the two games and she has recorded at least two points in every game she's played in this season.
The senior currently sits first in the conference in goals, (38), goals per game (3.80), shots per game (9.10), shots on goal per game (6.40) and free-position goals per game (1.40).
The Gators are back in action Tuesday, when the team welcomes Brown to Donald R. Dizney Stadium. Opening draw is set for 7 p.m.
