Tuesday, March 26, 2019 | Track and Field
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida senior Yanis David and junior Grant Holloway earned their third and fourth Southeastern Conference weekly awards of the year, respectively, as the league office announced its latest bundle of recognitions.
David and Holloway both earned SEC Field Athlete of the Week awards. The Gators' duo combined for three NCAA-leading times and marks in their outdoor openers at last Friday's FSU Relays.
David posted a wind-aided long jump of 6.48 meters (21 feet, 3.25 inches), giving her a five-centimeter national lead over teammate Kala Penn. David's second-best jump, a wind-aided 6.43 meters (21 feet, 1.25 inches), would have tied the national lead as well.
Holloway leapt to an NCAA lead in the long jump on his first and only attempt of the day, which measured 7.97 meters (26 feet, 1.75 inches). The Chesapeake, Va., native leads the nation by 20 centimeters. Holloway came back later in the afternoon and ran the third leg for Florida's 4x100 relay team, which sped to a national lead of 38.74 seconds.
The Gators continue their 2019 outdoor season this week, when they host the Pepsi Florida Relays.
