Trio of Gators Win SEC Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida senior Yanis David, junior Grant Holloway, and head coach Mike Holloway were once again recognized for standout indoor seasons, this time by the Southeastern Conference, which announced its individual awards Wednesday.
David was named SEC Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year, Holloway was voted SEC Men's Indoor Runner of the Year, and Coach Holloway was tabbed SEC Men's Indoor Coach of the Year. The three previously earned the same awards via the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, within the South Region.
David became the fourth woman in history to sweep the horizontal jumps titles at SEC Indoor Championships, tying for the Cliff Harper Trophy (individual high points award) in the process. The Lamentin, Guadeloupe native is also the only woman ranked in the top 10 nationally in both horizontal jumps. David is the NCAA leader in the triple jump and ranks second nationally in the long jump, with both her season-best marks coming in her SEC Indoors wins.
Moreover, David joins Mariam Kevkhishvili (2009) and Shara Proctor (2010) as the only other Gators to win the award since 2004, when the SEC Athlete of the Year honor split into running and field event categories.
Holloway joined Arkansas's Dorian Ulrey (2009-10) as the only other man since 2004 to repeat as the conference's top indoor runner. During that same period, the only other Gators to win the award were Kerron Clement (2005) and Arman Hall (2014).
Holloway was the brightest star of the SEC Indoor Championships, as he set the meet's individual scoring record with 28 points and helped the Gators capture the team title. Prior to Holloway's performance, no man had scored more than 22.5 points at SEC Indoors.
The Chesapeake, Va., native also joined South Carolina's Terrence Trammell (1999-2000) as the only other man in history to win the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles titles at SEC Indoors. The night prior to his sprints-hurdles sweep, Holloway finished second in the long jump, missing gold by just two centimeters.
Holloway boasts five of the seven fastest 60 hurdles times in the world this year, including the second- and third-fastest times in collegiate history.

The Chesapeake, Va. native also holds the NCAA lead and third-fastest time in the world (6.51 seconds) in the 60 meters, which broke Olympian and five-time national champion Jeff Demps' school record of 6.52. In addition, Holloway is a key cog for Florida's 4x400 relay team, which ranks third nationally.

This is Coach Holloway's fourth time receiving the conference's coaching laurel, having also won the award in 2004, 2011, and 2015.
Holloway led the Gators to the eighth SEC Indoors team title in program history. It was the fourth such title under his leadership. Florida won three individual titles and tallied seven additional medal finishes at SEC Indoors. The Gators ran away from the field, winning the meet by 15 points despite scratching one of its two 200 meters finalists and its 4x400 relay team.
Florida and its 18 NCAA Indoor Championships entrants compete in Birmingham, Ala., Friday and Saturday.
