Marris Nominated for Prestigious Scholar-Athlete Award

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Georgia Marris of the Florida women's swimming and diving team has been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship by the University of Florida.
The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.
The Southeastern Conference will name the 2019 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship on April 25.
Highlights of Florida's nominee includes:

Major: Horticulture Sciences
Each year, the SEC, in conjunction with AT&T, an SEC official sponsor, provides the league's male and female McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Scholarship recipients with a $20,000 post-graduate scholarship. The 26 remaining male and female finalists for the award will also receive a $10,000 post-graduate scholarship.
The award recipients are chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from the 14 SEC institutions and are honored at the SEC Spring Meetings in Sandestin, Florida, in late May.
Last year's McWhorter Award recipients were University of Tennessee football player Parker Henry and LSU volleyball player Kelly Quinn.

- Three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll, 2016, 2017, 2018
- CSCAA Scholar All-American honorable mention, 2016
- Posted a 3.97 GPA in undergraduate work
- Member of Goodwill Gators, the Athletic Department's Community Service student-athlete team
- Earned an All-American honorable mention honor as a member of the 400 Medley Relay at the 2019 NCAA Championships
- Member of the 800 Free Relay that placed sixth at the 2019 SEC Championships
- Used a career-best performance to win the 100 Fly B Final at the 2019 SEC Championships with a swim of 52.23. Her time moved her into the No. 6 position all-time in the UF record books
- Placed eighth in the 200 Fly A Final at the 2019 SEC Championships and has the ninth-best swim in UF history
- Member of the 400 Medley Relay that placed sixth at the 2019 SEC Championships
- Won the C Final in the 200-yard freestyle on a time of 1:46.56 to finish 17th overall at the 2016 SEC Championships while picking up nine points for the Florida women
