Gators Chasing Austin Qualifiers at NCAA East Preliminary
Wednesday, May 22, 2019 | Track and Field
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Florida boasts 44 entries – 26 on the men's side and 18 on the women's side – for this weekend's NCAA East Preliminary, which is the qualifying meet for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. The top 48 individual and top 24 relay declarations within the East and West Regions earned berths to their respective preliminary meet.
Only 12 individuals and 12 relays from each regional competition advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas, slated for June 5-8. Sophomore Amanda Froeynes has already secured an NCAA Outdoors berth in the heptathlon – which is not contested at the preliminary meets.
Both the men and women have a pair of No. 1 seeds.
Two-time defending 110-meter hurdles national champion Grant Holloway is tied for first in that event, while SEC champion Hakim Sani Brown leads the men's 100 meters entries, with teammate and SEC runner-up Raymond Ekevwo checking in right behind him. All three are key cogs in Florida's 4x100 relay team, which heads to Jacksonville as the No. 2 seed.
Four-time SEC champion and indoor triple jump national champion Yanis David is the top seed in the triple jump, and ranks second in the long jump. Sharrika Barnett enters as the top seed in the 400 meters, in addition to helping the Gators' 4x400 relay team secure the second seed.
FloTrack will provide live streaming for all three days of competition, though it requires a paid subscription. Links to the streaming information, as well as ticketing and additional meet information are below.
