LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) acknowledged the Florida softball coaching staff as the 2019 Division I Southeast Region Coaching Staff of the Year.
Head Coach Tim Walton along with assistant coaches Aric Thomas, Mike Bosch and volunteer assistant coach Jolene Henderson were selected for the award and will be considered for the NFCA's Division I National Coaching Staff of the Year award, which will be announced on June 26.
The Gators finished the season with a 49-18 record en route to the program's 10th overall Women's College World Series (WCWS) appearance and fifth Southeastern Conference Tournament Championship.
Florida took the SEC Tournament title after it defeated No. 20 South Carolina 6-5, No. 10 LSU 3-0, No. 24 Auburn 3-0 and No. 4 Alabama 2-1. It was only the fourth time in SEC history that a program has won the conference tournament championship in back-to-back seasons.
UF transferred the momentum gained from the SEC Tournament and applied it to the NCAA Regional and Super Regional rounds in Gainesville at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.
The Gators picked up three consecutive shutouts against Boston University, 3-0, and Boise State twice, 8-0 (5 innings) and 5-0.
The program advanced to its 10th WCWS in the last 12 years after taking the series against No. 12 Tennessee with victories of 3-0 and 2-1 (8 innings).
