About The Learfield IMG College Sports Directors' Cup
The Learfield IMG College Sports Directors' Cup, presented annually by the nation's athletics directors, recognizes the schools with the best overall sports performances in an academic year. The scoring system uses finishes in NCAA Division I men's and women's basketball, baseball and women's volleyball championship action. Additionally, a program can receive points in up to 15 other sports toward its final score. Stanford received its 25th consecutive Directors' Cup at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) convention in June.
In the last 11 seasons, 15 different programs appeared among the Directors' Cup final top five. Only Florida and Stanford appear in each top five since 2008-09, with Southern California (6) earning the next highest number of top-five finishes in that span.
UF Athletics Director Scott Stricklin says:
"The numerous strong finishes by Gator teams – including another NCAA title by men's indoor track & field – led to another third-place finish in the Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup. Every day our staff strives to provide Florida student-athletes, coaches and fans a championship experience with integrity. All Gators should take pride in having a top-five athletic program at a school striving to be among America's top-five public universities." – UF Athletics Director Scott Stricklin
2019 Individual NCAA Champions for the Gators:
Six Gators claimed seven NCAA individual titles in 2019.
Alicia Boren closed her Gator career with a share of the NCAA title in her signature event, the floor exercise. Florida is the nation's only program to have a gymnast claim at least one NCAA individual event title each of the last nine seasons.
Junior Grant Holloway won three individual NCAA titles and ran a leg on UF's collegiate record-setting 4x100-meter relay. Holloway joined Raymond Ekevwo, Hakim Sani Brown and Ryan Clark on the relay that shattered the collegiate record, posting the first sub-38 second time in NCAA history. The time of 37.97 gave Florida its seventh 4x100 title – with all coming since 2000, and giving it a nation-leading total in that span.
Holloway returned to the track 40 minutes later to break the 40-year-old collegiate record and win his third consecutive 110-meter hurdles title, with a clocking of 12.98 seconds. He is the first in Division I history to win three consecutive indoor 60-meter hurdles and outdoor 110-meter hurdles NCAA titles.
At the NCAA Indoor meet, he became the third man in history to sweep the straightaway events (60 meters and 60-meter hurdles). He set an American and collegiate record (7.35) with his 60 hurdles win. Holloway returned to the track less than an hour later to break his own school record and win the 60 meters title (6.50). His eight NCAA titles (seven individual, one relay) in a three-year span sets Florida's career record, usurping the seven titles Marquis Dendy claimed from 2013-15.
Senior jumper Yanis David was golden at both NCAA Indoors and Outdoors. At NCAA Indoors, she posted four marks good enough to win the title but it was her final attempt of 14.03 meters (46 feet, 0.5 inches) that gave David the triple jump crown. Three months later, she set a Gators record with her leap of 6.84 meters (22 fee, 5.25 inches), which secured the school's first outdoor women's long jump national title. David also became the only woman on the current collegiate all-time outdoor top 10 lists for both horizontal jumps.
Other Gator successes:
Two Gators earned double 2019 national athlete of the year honors from U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association:
Earlier this week, Davis was in Los Angeles to claim the Honda Award as the season's top female track & field collegiate athlete.
