Brings total to 31 lacrosse players earning academic honors during the 2019 campaign
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Twelve Florida lacrosse players were named to the SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, as the Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday. Those 12 bring the total to 31 student-athletes with academic honors in the 2019 season, the most in program history.
Emerson Cabrera, Maggie Corbo, Natalie Dizney, Maddie Ellis, Annie Gillis, Hannah Mardiney, Maddie McMaster, Catherine Moriarty, Lexie Morton, Sarah Reznick, Maeson Tydings and Emma Wightman were the first-year Gators honored by the league.
Back in June, 19 Gators earned a spot on the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll, the most in history of the Florida lacrosse program.
Tuesday's announcement brings Florida's total number of student-athletes named to a 2018-19 SEC Academic Honor Roll to 332. Florida placed 251 on the SEC Academic Honor Rolls (90 on fall list; 58 on winter list; 103 on spring list) and 81 on the First-Year honor roll.
On the field, Florida swept both the American Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles, while going undefeated in league play for the fourth-straight season. The Gators finished the season with a 14-7 record, collected four IWLCA All-America honors, seven First Team All-AAC accolades and four of the six major AAC postseason awards.
To be recognized for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
