The U.S. team for October's World Championships will be named Monday.
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A trip to Sarasota this weekend for Gator sophomore Trinity Thomas could end with a ticket to Germany to represent the U.S. at the 2019 World Championships.
Thomas is the only current member of a NCAA team among the 15 invited to the U.S. Women's World Championships Selection Camp at EVO Athletics in Sarasota, Fla. The selection camp consists of two days of competition: the all-around on Sept. 22 and on Sept. 23, each gymnast competes on two events determined by the Athlete Selection Committee.
The all-around winner automatically qualifies for the U.S. team. The selection for the remaining five U.S. representatives for the 2019 World Championships is based on a variety of criteria, including:
- Results from the 2019 American Classic / GK U.S. Classic / U.S. Championships
- International competition & Worlds Selection Camp
- D and E scores earned at any official international assignment or national event
- Consistency
- Composition strength of all World team members, with consideration given for potential team, all-around and individual event medals
- World-class presentation and readiness to compete
The all-around competition streams live via the USA Gymnastics YouTube channel beginning Sunday at 4:45 p.m. ET. The U.S. roster will be announced at the conclusion of the World Team Selection Camp on Monday.
The six-woman team travels to Stuttgart, with five identified for the team qualification lineup at least 24 hours prior to World Championships competition. The World Championships run Oct. 3-12 at the Hanns-Martin Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart.
