Seven Gators Crowned ISL Champions, Dressel Takes MVP Honors After Historic Performance

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Seven former Gators were crowned International Swimming League (ISL) champions after the Cali Condors notched a winning tally of 561.5 points during the Budapest Bubble Championship Meets on Nov. 21-22.
Former Gators Khader Baqlah, Marcin Cieslak, Caeleb Dressel, Sherridon Dressel, Kelly Fertel, Natalie Hinds and Mark Szaranek all contributed to the Condors' championship in just the league's second season.
In a span of five days, Caeleb Dressel would set four World records in three different events to dominate the semifinals and championship meets. His performance led him to earning Season and Championship match MVP honors.
In the semifinal on Monday, he would become the only swimmer to ever break 50 seconds in the 100 IM, blasting a winning time of 49.88. He would come back on Sunday and better that swim, producing another World record in a time of 49.28 in the championship.
Caeleb Dressel would also post the fastest swims ever in the 100 fly and 50 free in a span of 40 minutes on Saturday to give the Condors a competition-best 267.0 points and a firm lead heading into the final day of the racing on Sunday.
He also notched a new American record in the 100 free (45.20) on Nov. 26.
Baqlah and Cieslak would also register historic efforts throughout the season, setting national records for their respective home countries.
Baqlah produced a new 200 free record for his home country of Jordan with a swim of 1:44.59 on Oct. 19, while Cieslak touched in a new 100 IM Polish national record of 51.14 on Nov. 10. He would set this record three different times throughout the season.
Throughout the five-week season, the Condors notched an ISL-leading 20 match points.
