Friday, December 18, 2020 | Football, Scott Carter
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gators quickly signed two offensive linemen on the first day of the Early Signing Period on Wednesday, with Jake Slaughter from Ocala Trinity Catholic and Yousef Mugharbil of Murphy (N.C.) High two of the first players to officially join the program.
Two days later, 6-foot-6, 290-pound Austin Barber of Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville officially joined his new teammates up front. Florida head coach Dan Mullen announced Barber's addition on his Twitter account Friday afternoon.
You can view the entire group of signees here or check out our live blog from Wednesday for a look at each player.
Meanwhile, Barber helped Trinity Christian Academy claim the Class 3A state championship on Wednesday in Tallahassee as the Conquerors, with a standout performance from receiver Marcus Burke, beat Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna in the final. Burke also signed with the Gators this week.
Barber had offers from SEC schools Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt. Outside the conference, Minnesota and Miami were among the schools that pursued Barber on the recruiting trail.
As you can tell in the photo below, Barber adds size to Florida's offensive line.
