GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Florida softball program officially welcomed its six freshmen newcomers to the program Aug. 31, when the team reported for individual practices.
Haley Pittman, Avery Goelz, Savannah Serrata, Emily Wilkie, Katie Kistler and Kali Reis each took a moment to share a little about themselves once they arrived.
Let's get to know a little more now about Kistler, an outfielder, from Orange Park, Fla.
Why are you excited to be a Gator?
I'm excited about getting to work with all the amazing women here and really creating special bonds with them.
What's something unique about your hometown?
I grew up about 30 to 35 minutes away from where the Jacksonville Jaguars play. I love them, so it was cool to just be able to drive a little and be able to see them.
What's your favorite softball memory?
My favorite would have to be playing in Oklahoma City with my travel team this past summer. We got to play in the same stadium that hosts the Women's College World Series for a few games and it was such a dream come true. I had only seen it through watching the World Series on TV, but it was so beautiful when I saw it in person. I hope I get to play a few more games there as a Gator.
Who's been one of the most influential people in your life?
One would definitely have to be my sister. She played softball in college as well and she has pretty much taught me everything I know about the game. I love my sister and I'm actually wearing the number 29 because of her. I use to wear seven, but obviously that's Jade (Caraway's) number so I had to find new one and I wanted to pick one that meant something to me. Being able to wear my sister's number is special and a big deal for me though.
Who's the most famous person you've ever met?
I actually don't think I've ever met anyone that's famous, yet.
Do you have a nickname?
It used to be Katie Bug, but I just go by Katie now. My travel team actually started calling me KB, which was short for Katie Bug.
What do you aspire to have a career in after college?
I haven't decided on anything specific yet, but I would like to pursue something in the medical field. In high school I took a few medical classes and that really interested me, so I hope I'm able to find something I'm passionate about in that area.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and you found a genie bottle. What are your three wishes?
My first wish would probably to have a beautiful house put on the island, because I would want to stay there. I wouldn't want to wish to leave. My second wish would be for unlimited food, so I wouldn't have to worry about finding something to eat. And I would have to use my last wish to bring my two best friends to be stranded on the island with me.
