Florida’s Leanne Wong Named to World Championships Roster

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Before she steps in front of the Stephen C. O'Connell crowd in January, Gator freshman Leanne Wong gets to add another stamp to her passport.
Wong was named to the four-member U.S. roster for the World Gymnastics Championships, set for Oct. 18-24 at the Kitakyushu General Gymnasium in Kitakyushu, Japan.
This is Wong's second trip to Japan since July, as she was a replacement athlete for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team.
The U.S.'s World Championships roster was revealed today at the team selection camp in Indianapolis, Ind. A full competition was held Friday, with Wong winning floor and third in all-around.
Of the Gators currently enrolled at UF, Wong will be the third to compete at a World Championships. Alyssa Baumann (2014) and Riley McCusker (2018) were part of World Championships' gold-medal U.S. teams. Morgan Hurd, a signee who is expected to enroll in January, won the 2017 World Championships' all-around title.

· Trained at Great American Gymnastics Express (GAGE) and coached by Al Fong and Armine Barutyan
Since the 2021 World Championships directly follow an Olympic Games, it includes only individual apparatus and all-around competitions. No team competitions will be contested.
